Tip #1: Facebook Personal Page vs Facebook Business Page

Facebook is a social media platform which is not just limited to your circle of friends. It can also be used for your Facebook business and you can set up a ‘Page’ or ‘Pages’ separate from your personal profile page. You can use the former in updating your own personal circle while you can use the latter to update your fans, potential and ongoing customers. Why is it important to separate the two and how can it be done? As an Orange County business owner, the suggestions below will help you in making sure that both your worlds are differentiated.

How to Separate Personal from Business Page:

1. Go to the Facebook site http://www.facebook.com and sign in to your business page. Toggle the ‘Account’ menu on the upper right top bar and select the option “Use Facebook as Page.”

2. Select the button ‘Switch’ located right next to your business page.

3. Hover to the right-hand column of the page and click the option “See All” which is next to the ‘Admins.’

4. Select the option ‘Remove’ right next to your name.

5. Click the option “Save Changes” and enter your account password and it will prompt you to click ‘Save’ afterwards. Facebook will immediately separate your personal and business page after following these steps.

Why is it Important to Separate the Personal from your Business Page:
The saying “You can’t serve two masters at the same time” doesn’t apply on Facebook. Your personal world need to be separated from your business world. Why? You don’t want to expose your personal messages to your fans, right? Nor do you want your friends to be bugged with updates about your business; otherwise, you run the risk of getting alienated or criticized due to your “business talks” which not all of your personal friends are interested or fond of hearing.

Another very good reason why the separation is necessary is for you to aggregate personal news from your industry or business news. When a business update is sent, you don’t want to miss it in a mass of personal status and comment updates from friends, right? It is easier to see and read relevant news about your business when you are not seeing your relatives’ photo updates, your friend’s status when she lost her boyfriend, baby pictures from neighbors, etc. I mean the list can go on and that’s exactly why the technicalities of your business should be a posted in a different page.

It is sometimes difficult and oftentimes tempting to update our personal statuses with our latest business promo, new product launch or a newly-opened business branch but do we want all that technical stuff on the page where we engage with our family, relatives and friends? I don’t think so. What matters to us on a personal level need not know or get involved on our business level and vise versa.
